Riding in Trains with Boys

Today I learned that trains can be very, very amusing. I boarded the train at 8am this morning with the thoughts that I might actually sleep or get work done. Within the first 5 minutes I realized there was no real chance of either of these things happening. About 90% of the train was filled with people between the ages of 22 and 32 who were all headed down to St. Louis. I feel sorry for the 10% that are families traveling with their kids. The 9 guys near me began drinking at about 8:45 and have since been pestering the conductor to flip their chairs around. Now that they’ve finally accomplished this, they’re considering playing euchre, poker, or flippy cup. Obviously flippy cup would be the most amusing of these choices, but I’m a little nervous about this idea since I’m sitting relatively close and my bag is underneath one of their chairs. It will be interesting to see how the rest of this trip pans out; maybe I’ll make some new friends. I wonder if the trip home will be any fun considering most of us will likely be hungover by that point. By the way, Evan called me at 8 this morning to tell me he was walking down the street w/ a 30 pack & that he thought Doug was on my train too—so where is Doug??

I just heard an interesting idea for a pub-crawl:
  1. Start riding the orange line towards Midway.

  2. Get off at ever stop and do a shot.

  3. Get off again at Midway and book the cheapest flight you can find, no matter where it’s headed.

  4. Continue drinking on the plane.

  5. See how quickly you can get thrown out of a random town.
