Well, I've made it to Asia in one piece. The flights were incredibly long, but at least I slept for a decent portion.
Yesterday was our first actual day here and it ended up begin quite eventful. We visited CCTV and Boeing, neither of which were very good. CCTV couldn't speak English and Boeing only spoke about the growth in China. However, between the 2 speakers Caroline, Kristen and I had a shopping adventure. We decided to skip lunch (the food here is disgusting and questionable at best) and have a go at the knock-off market. However, we got mixed up on the location and ended up in an actual supermarket looking for Prada purses. No purses were found, but we did see a full dead cow hanging on a hook next to the yogurt. With this, both Caroline and I nearly puked so we exited rather quickly. We eventually made to the market and I found it to be extremely overwhelming. Anytime we even glanced at something we were immediately swarmed. Caroline eventually decided to purchase two trench coats, which ended up being the craziest thing I've seen in awhile but attempting to write it just wouldn't do justice.
After Boeing we all got a 60 min massage for the grand total of $8. I've been here 2 days now and haven't even spent $100 (and that's including last nights shenanigans). After the massage we were all tired and I think everyone fell asleep on the bus. Unfortunately, Marcy failed to wake up but we didn't notice and she ended up an hour away from our hotel in some remote part of the city. Her whole experience sounds horrible and it made us realize that we need to keep better track of each other.
Today we visited the Forbidden City, which is where the Emperors live. It was pretty cool, but you couldn't go inside anything. I'm very glad the Taiwanese girls are with us because they are great at explaining the Chinese history (aside from the whole interpreting thing). This afternoon we visited Ogilvy and it was awesome. I think it would actually be cool to work there, not that I would really consider moving to the other side of the world or anything.
Alright I'm off to dinner. Tomorrow, the Great Wall...

Kate
only been gone for a few days and ALREADY you've gotten on the internet and posted a blog. i'd expect nothing less from you deborah. i also cant tell you how jealous i am hearing about u visiting the forbidden city, the great wall, etc. etc. its one thing to know that ur in china it's another to actually read these names. ur grocery store experience reminds me of a similar one mom, jacque, and i had in a small village in mexico. only there was no dead cow, just maggots crawling on unrefrigerated eggs, meat, etc. i had a bag of chips to eat that day and some candy that had actual pepper on it (so i didnt actually eat all that much of the candy). which reminds me in addition to whatever else you get me as a souvenir i would like some candy or other type of food from asia. p.s. teaching/observing is fun. i have a real knack for yelling at the kids. actually i rather enjoy it
our hotels all have internet in them, so it's much easier than I anticipated. however, I've been pretty busy so it's the last thing on my mind. my cell also works here (loved the message Dow) but it costs a ton so I'm not really using it. i would update about the great wall, but i have to get ready for dinner now.
becca- i would bring you food, but i would be worried about how safe it was.
btw, i'm loving the barganing for knock-offs. its awesome. and, i'm lovig the massages. i don't want to come home. later haters.
i bought a purse for me kate and C approved. i havent' bought u one though. i was thinking maybe a wallet.
