This weekend was very random and crazy. To sum it up shortly, it was too much. Too much driving, too much getting lost, too much drinking, too much apartment hunting, too much of Chicago, too much fighting, and definitely too much quality time for me and Nikki. Don’t get me wrong, I did have fun, but I think it would have been better if the whole excursion had been in a smaller dose.
For anyone who doesn’t know, I went to Chicago this weekend for Nikki’s birthday. To be honest, this was probably an altogether bad call to begin with, but Kate had reassured me it would be ok. And to back track slightly, earlier this week Kate had asked me to fix stuff w/ me and Nikki b/c there is a possibility that Kate and I might live together in Chicago (this is still up in the air but will hopefully be figured out tomorrow). So, I gave it shot. I essentially told Nikki that I wasn’t ok with everything, but that we would just avoid the topic. Believe it or not folks, I have actually grown up a little and managed to stick to that creed. However, Ms. Marrin did not. I suppose it’s understandable considering it was her birthday, but I really wish the whole topic was avoided. She managed to bring this up both nights, and finally last night I had enough. Nikki somehow tried to turn everything around on me and ended up insulting me several times throughout the “discussions.” The only interesting thing out of all of this was talking to her sister, but I really don’t feel like writing any of these details. The whole trip ended with a 3 hour car ride where the two of us sat in complete silence. Fantastic!
Side Notes:
We all took a cab ride last night to the Greek festival. It seems that the driver was straight from India. Stephanie (Nikki’s sister) and her friends had taken this same cab driver several times before and are very tight with him. The whole way there he and the girl in the front seat danced to this crazy Indian music that he was blaring. I think it was the strangest cab ride ever. However, Rita in Bloomington definitely is a close runner up for several occasions.
Don’t ask how, but I broke the stove in Stephanie’s apartment last night and the entire place reeks of gas. I didn’t tell anyone yet and I’m not really sure how to explain that one. Hopefully, it all works out.
Also, I still don't have a damn apartment.

what about the cab ride up the slopes in elko?
nope. not even close.
rita even beats elko. on one trip w/ rita, she almost kicked me out of her cab. ---she was talking shit about the black people next to us and when i said that my grandpa was half black she almost through me out of the car. luckily, the boys saved me this time. antoher time she confieded w/ me for the 20 minutes about her recently deceased husband and how he was her soulmate and us children were just hooligans for the things we pulled late at night.
another favorite of mine would be the elvis impersonator who picked us all up for dow's 21st. he had the jump suit on and everything.
with all that being said, i think the indian cab driver is still the winner. perhaps this was influenced by the oddity of the entire trip, but all the same he is my choice.
